Ranked second in the country, the Bears won yet another Top 15 match-up with last night’s 77-69 win vs. 9th-ranked Kansas. It marks a second straight win against one of the top squads in the country after Baylor knocked of #15 Texas Tech 68-60 on Saturday. After the game, Bears senior Mark Vital turned his attention to ESPN commentator and analyst Fran Fraschilla, who tweeted this following Baylor’s win vs. the Red Raiders: “It’s painful for me to say this, but this is not the same @BaylorMBB Mark Vital of last season. Is he in shape? Would love to see that fire again.” Hector Ledesma has Vital’s response, as well as reaction from his team, in this Big 12 report. The San Antonio Spurs dropped the second game of their back-to-back Sunday night, falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves 96-88. The loss marked the team’s first of their five-game road trip, and also snapped San Antoino’s three-game win streak. The Spurs played without their star player, DeMar DeRozan, who was out due to personal reasons. Spurs guard Lonnie Walker IV stepped up in his absence, finishing with a season-high 25 points. “We hit a wall tonight, just ran out of gas” said head coach Gregg Popovich. “You know after we got up nine we played really poorly. Starting with a couple of missed free throws and then we fouled a three-point shooter and at that point, you know we needed a little better play from a couple of guys. It’s been a good run here on the road, but we just ran out of gas.” San Antonio closes out their road trip Tuesday when they face the Oklahoma City Thunder. The San Antonio Spurs dropped their second straight preseason game to the Houston Rockets Thursday night, 128-106. With the loss, the Spurs finished the exhibition slate 0-3. Spurs point guard Dejounte Murray noted the difficulty of having just three preseason games to get ready for their season 2020-2021 season opener next Wednesday, Dec. 23 against the Memphis Grizzlies. “You know especially with everything going on how quick everything was thrown at us, but no excuses this is our job” said Murray. “We got three games, so you know we went out and clearly, we lost all three games, but you know it’s good to get everything out now. But like I said we need to take every game good and bad from what happened in preseason and I know we are going to have some hard practices coming up and just bring everything together and try to fix everything and get ready for Memphis.” For the latest of local, regional and national sports, subscribe to our YouTube channel and like us on social media. Baylor’s VP and Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades released this statement last night (Thursday): “At this time and in the interest of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, we have temporarily closed our football facility and are taking all possible precautions. Our focus remains on playing the scheduled game with Oklahoma State at McLane Stadium on December 12.” Reports indicate that multiple Baylor offensive staff members had tested positive for COVID-19. But this morning, the Big 12 sent word that Baylor’s season finale vs. #22 Oklahoma State will kick off tomorrow at 2:30. Earlier in the week, the Bears were asked if they had an interest in scheduling a non-conference game for next weekend. Here’s Dave Aranda’s response, which, while it takes on a slightly different meaning now, still holds true… For the latest of local, regional and national sports, subscribe to our YouTube channel and like us on social media.
