In der zweiten Hälfte erwischte dann der VfB einen Blitzstart: Jamie Leweling traf aus spitzem Winkel den Pfosten und Chris Führich verwandelte den Abpraller 68 Sekunden nach Wiederanpfiff. Neun Minuten später setzte sich Deniz Undav im Duell der Nationalspieler gegen Andrich durch und erhöhte mit seinem 18. Saisontor (68.). Nun wurde es ein wilder Schlagabtausch. Die Leverkusener erhöhten den Druck - und wurden am Ende dafür belohnt: Nach einem Freistoß von Florian Wirtz landete der Ball bei Andrich, der den Ball über die Linie schoss (90.+6). Die Stuttgarter bleiben nach dem 1:1 im Hinspiel dagegen wie sonst nur Borussia Dortmund in beiden Spielen gegen den neuen Meister ungeschlagen und festigten Rang drei und damit die Champions League.
