At the beginning of what would be a long away leg now - RR are on the road for their next six out of seven matches - the current table-toppers would be hoping it's just a mere coincidence, and their last-ball defeat to GT two nights ago only a minor blip. Incidentally, Kings are more desperate for those two points to resuscitate their campaign. They've lost three of their first five games, are placed eighth, and have had a mixed bag at their new home where there's been considerable movement for the pacers under lights. Their narrow two-run defeat against SRH earlier this week, though, was due to the minimal returns from some of the biggest batting attractions in their first-choice XI that left too much to accomplish for the finishers for a second successive game. Prabhsimran Singh, who has been consistently backed as the Impact Sub, opener Jonny Bairstow and power-hitter Jitesh Sharma have not lived up to the billing thus far, where as Shikhar Dhawan and Sam Curran only have a couple of notable knocks to their name before their form tapered off. While the opening woes are alike for both sides - the middle-overs phase is where RR have been saved by the purple patch of their captain Sanju Samson, also in the race for that World Cup keeper's slot alongside Jitesh, and their new no. 4, Riyan Parag. Punjab's top-three have collectively produced only one 50+ score between them. However, the silver lining to this has been the emergence of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma as finishers par excellence, successfully chasing down the 200-run target in Ahmedabad and only narrowly missing out on producing an encore for the home crowd the very next game. Bangladesh the home team would’ve to be mentally ready to handle the pressure of expectations better. Sri Lanka on the other hand would bank on their batters and spin department to produce a special performance. The three T20Is could well be about one of the teams setting the bar so high that the other would have extra motivation to overcome the challenge thrown at them.
