What Happened In Preseason?!

You see the screen and the handoff here for Luke Kennard on the curl. And as the help defender is sliding down to help on the potential drive, we got a crosscourt pass to the corner, and everyone on the court is focused there as you can see. Leaving the lane wide open for Luke. He gets it down low, the fake, finds the open man and the dunk. This was absolutely beautiful and we gotta see it one more time in full speed. So let’s check out the most interesting plays from the beginning of the preseason. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Look at all the motion here from Golden State. We got a fake screen up top, while Bjelica comes out on the Iguodala pick. So now with the defender trailing him, they got all the advantage forcing the Blazers to collapse. And at this moment we got an open man in the near corner, open shooter up top, and 1 in the far corner. Nemanja decides to sling it to Oto Porter and he knocks it down. It’s amazing how many options the Golden State Warriors got on this play. And we got a few quick and sneaky executions. First up, on this high pick and roll, as the sixers are starting to attack, you see the defense is spread out. So watch Furkan Korkmaz here, with the fake drive to the baseline which gets his defender off of him and he gets a clean look for this 3 and it goes in. Not really a designed play of course but I like how Korkmaz found a way to get open. Then we got this out of bounds play, Malik Beasley gets a double screen on his way to the corner, and as the defender is trailing him, he would have an open shot, which forces the help. Jordan Mclaughlin- the inbounder, cuts to the basket and you can see everyone is on the perimeter and there’s no defense in the paint, so he’s all alone for this finish. I feel like he was one of the options on this play and it wasn’t just his intuition to cut, because in my opinion the paint was so open with a reason. For them to get such an easy layup. Let me show you a savvy veteran move by Al Horford. In this scramble situation, Schroeder notices that Brown is going back inside so he throws the lob. Horford also knows that and just slides in to kinda screen and protect Jaylen as he seals to opposing players. Brown gets the ball and easily lays it in. Again, not how they drew it up, but I love the quick thinking by big Al to help his team. I always like when shooters get some screening action from under the basket, so Max Strus right here gets 1 and runs away from Lou, and as Williams tries to catch from the inside, we got another pick, and this bump is enough for Strus to get an open look and drill it from downtown. And finally, Minnesota had another nice execution on this play. Initially Edwards gets a high screen, but instead of attacking, he turns back towards Russell. The big man sets the initial pick, but then continues on for another one for D’Angello, who comes out and gets the pass. With the defender on his back, this is now a 2 on 1 situation, and Nas Reid is awarded for his effort and gets the finish inside.
