However, in October 2021, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced that Sri Lanka would host the tournament in 2022, with Pakistan hosting the 2023 edition. India will be without their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the Asia Cup, with the 28-year-old nursing a back injury. Sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Indian team have said that Bumrah has been suffering from back spasm for some time and the selectors will not be risking aggravation of his injury by picking him for the Continental Championship. Bumrah's last India game was an ODI, against England at Lord's on July 14. He was subsequently rested for the just-concluded eight-match white ball series against the West Indies. Bumrah becomes the second pacer to be unavailable after Harshal Patel. As reported earlier, the Haryana and RCB bowler is down with side strain and, like Bumrah, did not play in the West Indies series.
