After a goalless first half, India conceded just before the hour mark through Yumi Hayashi (59’), and a double strike from Yuzuha Ikeda (76’, 81’) saw the four-time champions secure their second win in the group. The result takes Japan to the top of Group B with six points from two matches. India remain without a point from their opening two games, and are bottom of the group after Lebanon held Australia to a 1-1 draw earlier in the day. The Young Tigresses, however, remain alive in the tournament, and a win in the last group stage game against Lebanon on Friday could potentially be enough to seal a quarter-final berth as one of the best third-placed teams, thanks to their superior goal difference (-5) over both Group C sides — Philippines (-13) and Chinese Taipei (-14).
