The Spoken Truth Podcast reacted to the Boston Celtics 109-86 win over the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 2 as Jaylen Brown scored a game-high 30 points and six assists on 6/10 shooting from 3-point range. Boston came out with a lot more energy tonight after losing Game 1 at home and Brown was leading the charge. He scored 17 points in the first quarter and the Celtics built a 32-21 lead before blowing it open in the second quarter. Milwaukee made multiple runs throughout the second half to get within striking distance but Boston led from start to finish and by as much as 26 points in the dominant win. Brown had just 12 points in Game 1 as the Celtics made the second-fewest two-point field goals (10) in playoff history. Giannis Antetokounmpo has struggled from the field in two games as the Boston defense has continued to play at an elite level. Danny Murphy, Charles Post and Tunde Aduroja also discussed Joel Embiid's injury as the 76ers attempt to compete with the Heat, Golden State's last-second win over the Grizzlies on the road, Luka Dončić's 45-point performance as the Mavericks came up short at Phoenix and much more! Later in the live episode, we talked about how James Harden needs to score more consistently to give Philadelphia a chance to win Game 2, Klay Thompson's game-winning shot and defensive stop on Sunday afternoon, and how the Celtics can defend Antetokounmpo and the Bucks going forward. Harden had just 16 points and five assists in the loss as Embiid is expected to miss Game 2 on Wednesday. Ohio State fought through a slow start to take down 10-seed Loyola Chicago 54-41 in the first round on Friday. Despite struggling for most of the last month, the defense was very focused on protecting the paint and was able to create turnovers with high intensity. EJ Liddell and Malaki Branham (0:09) led the way offensively as usual but Kyle Young’s return (0:05) was arguably the biggest reason why the Buckeyes survived and advanced. As both teams took a while to find an offensive rhythm, Liddell (0:30) couldn’t get a shot to fall to in the first half. He had just four points on 0/3 from the field and 0/2 from 3-point range at halftime. Even when his shot wasn’t falling, Liddell (0:35) remained active and made an impact in other areas. Then the junior forward started to attack the paint and post up more, and he eventually got going in the second half, knocking down 4/6 shot attempts after the break. Liddell was phenomenal defensively and was a major factor in limiting Loyola’s leading scorer Lucas Williamson to four points on 1/10 from the field. The All-Big Ten first team selection racked up 10 rebounds and three blocks in the win, including a highlight-worthy block (0:12) from the weak side that led to a fastbreak layup. Liddell will have to play just as well (0:44), if not better, against Villanova in the second round. Branham has scored 10+ points in his last 10 games including four 20+ point performances. The freshman forward has become an extremely consistent scorer, in addition to being a dynamic ball handler and defender. Villanova’s roster is filled with experience but he should be able to keep playing at a high level. Chris Holtmann certainly hopes Branham can stay hot as the Buckeyes look to keep their season alive. Young returned to the lineup after missing three games due to a concussion. He exited the loss against Nebraska on March 1 and didn’t play on Senior Day against Michigan or in the Big Ten Tournament matchup with Penn State. The Buckeyes clearly missed the senior big man and the defense suffered during his absence. Ohio State’s offense wasn’t nearly as consistent either as Young brings versatility and stability on both ends. The 6’8 senior scored nine points and seven rebounds in his first game back against Loyola. He scored a bucket (0:04) early on and got to the free throw line when the Buckeyes offense was sputtering in the opening minutes. Holtmann’s frontcourt combined for 24 rebounds as Young (0:41) consistently crashed the rim alongside Liddell and Zed Key. There’s no doubt that Ohio State’s defensive improvement is a promising sign but Loyola’s offense (0:24) was atrocious from the beginning of the game, shooting the second worst percentage (26.7%) in NCAA Tournament history. Villanova will execute at a much higher rate as guards Collin Gillespie and Justin Moore are difficult to contain. They combined for 35 points on 7/14 from beyond the arc in a 80-60 win over Delaware in the first round. Michigan erased a 15-point deficit in the first half (0:10) to upset Colorado State 73-65 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. After falling down 28-13, the Wolverines looked dead in the water but Frankie Collins scored seven straight to cut Colorado State's lead to 36-29 at halftime. Collins earned his first start since DeVante' Jones was ruled out and freshman guard certainly made the most of his opportunity. Michigan's momentum (0:17) continued into the second half as Caleb Houstan knocked down back to back 3-pointers (1:03) to give the Wolverines a lead they would never relinquish. Colorado State built an early lead (0:05) as center Dischon Thomas (0:22) couldn't miss from beyond the arc. Collins sparked the Wolverines run with a pair of fastbreak finishes including a steal and slam (0:30) prior to halftime. Eli Brooks (0:50) and Hunter Dickinson (1:10) put the finishing touches on Michigan's comeback as Colorado State couldn't keep up in the final minutes. Dickinson scored a game-high 21 points (0:40), while Brooks totaled 16 points (0:54), seven rebounds and six assists. Collins compiled a career-high 14 points (0:44) in his tournament debut. Mountain West Player of the Year David Roddy (0:13) had 13 points and four assists in the loss. Keegan Murray (0:07) had another dominant performance as Iowa outlasted Purdue 75-66 to win their fist Big Ten Tournament (2:23) title since 2006. The sophomore forward finished his outstanding tournament with 19 points, 11 rebounds and three assists against Purdue in the championship game. Iowa has three conference tournament wins in program history, which is tied for third most in the Big Ten with Wisconsin, and behind only Michigan State and Ohio State. Murray broke the single-tournament scoring record with 103 points in four consecutive wins for an average of 25.8 points per game. The Hawkeyes also broke the Big Ten Tournament single game record with 112 points against Northwestern on Thursday and the tournament record with 351 total points after Ohio State set the mark as a runner-up last season. Iowa is one of two teams that won the tournament with four wins in four straight days after doing so in 2001 and 2022. Michigan accomplished that feat with back to back titles in 2017 and 2018. Caitlin Clark also led the Hawkeyes women's basketball team to a Big Ten Tournament title last week. Following the win over Purdue, Iowa is 12-2 in their last 14 games. Tony Perkins had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists (0:55) against the Boilermakers on Sunday. The Indianapolis product had a major impact alongside Murray and Patrick McCaffery (1:27). Jaden Ivey (1:09) had a game-high 20 points and six assists, (0:29) highlighted by a floating finish in the paint (0:18), but it wasn't enough to push Purdue over the top. Trevion Williams (2:04) went for 11 points, 11 rebounds and three assists including a behind the back dime (0:36) to Ethan Morton. Despite being the top ranked team in the Big Ten for most of the season, the Boilermakers (1:15) failed to take home the regular season and tournament championship. Purdue went on a 7-0 run to tie the game 51-51 late in the second half. Payton Sandfort nailed a pair of 3-pointers (1:51) to put Iowa back in the lead and Fran McCaffery's team (2:19) fought off another surge from the Boilermakers as Murray broke away for a two-handed dunk (2:10) before Jordan Bohannon extended the lead with a couple free throws (2:14). Murray was named tournament MVP after the record-breaking showing. Iowa will look to keep their momentum going in the NCAA Tournament as they take on Atlantic 10 tournament champion Richmond on Thursday, while Purdue will meet Ivy League winner Yale the next day. Purdue advanced to the Big Ten Tournament title game following consecutive wins over Penn State and Michigan State. Jaden Ivey (0:01) finished with a team-high 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists (0:20) for the Boilermakers in the quarterfinals on Friday night. Zach Edey compiled 15 points and five rebounds in the 69-61 win. Despite coming up short, Penn State competed as head coach Micah Shrewsberry faced his former team. Shrewsberry was an assistant under Matt Painter from 2019-2021 after spending time with the Boilermakers earlier in the decade as well. Purdue led 35-31 at halftime. Purdue went on a 20-7 run to end the first half after a slow shooting start and Eric Hunter Jr. knocked down a 3-pointer (0:24) to give the Boilermakers a double-digit lead with 8:11 left. Penn State cut the deficit to 62-61 but another run pushed Purdue to the semifinals. Brandon Newman (0:52) had 12 points for the Boilermakers in his first game in over a month. Jalen Pickett had 16 points for Penn State, while John Harrar (0:30) totaled 15 points and 12 rebounds. Ivey flashed next level speed and finishing ability in the win with a number of impressive plays including a hanging layup off the glass (0:14) and a drive through two defenders (0:37). The next day, Matt Painter's team moved past Michigan State 75-70 to secure a spot in the championship game. Trevion Williams (0:57), the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year (0:34), came up huge against the Spartans with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists off the bench. Ivey scored a game-high 22 points on 7/14 shooting from the field and Edey added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hunter and Mason Gillis (1:05) came up clutch again, hitting back to back triples to seal the win. Purdue will take on Iowa in the Big Ten title game tomorrow afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Bohannon struggled for most of the game before going 3/3 from beyond the arc in the last 2:16 (1:08). Keegan Murray (0:34), a potential lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, knocked down a ton of big shots (0:50) in the second half as well during a dominant 32-point, 9-rebound performance that included a record-breaking eight made 3-pointers (1:01). Trayce Jackson-Davis (0:54) continued his excellent postseason run, scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
