Rassie van der Dussen, 64 off 41 balls vs Warriors A sizzling half-century in the Durban heat from Rassie van der Dussen together with seven shared wickets between Kagiso Rabada and Sisanda Magala helped the Imperial Lions make a strong start to the Betway T20 Challenge with a four-wicket win over the Dafabet Warriors on Saturday. Wandile Gwavu's team, champions of the competition when it was last played, bowled first after losing the toss but managed to dismiss their opponents for 157 at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium. Seamer Magala was their most successful bowler with four for 37, but Proteas speedster Rabada was the man that impressed most with his three for 23. National team-mate Van der Dussen then blasted 64 off 41 balls (3 fours, 4 sixes) to lead the Lions' charge that ended with them crossing the line with four deliveries to spare. The margin of victory could have been even greater for the Johannesburg-based side had they not went through a wobble late during the chase. They were in control for most of the contest, though, especially after pulling the Warriors back following a fast start provided by Jon-Jon Smuts (14) and Gihahn Cloete (18). But from 34 for none after four overs, Rabada's pace then rattled the Eastern Cape side as they lost quick wickets to slump to 36 for three. Wihan Lubbe (22), who was rattled by a bouncer from the paceman that struck his head, and captain Sinethemba Qeshile (33) did lead the recovery – the Warriors reaching 107 for four at one stage. But they fell to the excellent Bjorn Fortuin (1/18) and Beuran Hendricks (1/29) respectively, before Magala returned to mop up the tail, the innings ending with the 10th wicket falling from the final delivery. The Lions lost Ryan Rickelton (5) and Reeza Hendricks (11) early, before Temba Bavuma (40) and Van der Dussen rebuilt with a 64-run second-wicket stand. The latter and Delano Potgieter (17) followed that by adding 58 for the next wicket to put the chase well on track. However, the two set men fell to Aya Gqamane (3/20) to threaten a late twist, but Fortuin struck nine quick runs to ensure there was no Warriors comeback as Gwavu's men sealed victory early in the final over. Hendricks and Van der Dussen set up Proteas for series-clinching win

REEZA HENDRICKS and Rassie van der Dussen shared a South African record second wicket partnership against Sri Lanka and Dale Steyn and Chris Morris then both made a double strike with the new ball to put the Standard Bank Proteas well on their way to a series-clinching win in the second KFC T20 International match at SuperSport Park on Friday evening. Victory by 16 runs gave the Proteas a 2-0 series win with just the final match to be played at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Sunday afternoon (2.30pm start). Hendricks (65 off 46 balls, 9 fours) and KFC Man of the Match Van der Dussen (a career best 64 off 44 balls, 4 fours and 3 sixes) set up the Proteas total of 180 with their partnership of 116 in 13 overs. Once again, Sri Lanka were not able to lay any kind of foundation up front in their reply as Steyn, who went level with Imran Tahir (61 wickets) as South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in this format, and Morris tore the top order wide open. It left Sri Lanka on 47/4 at the end of their power play and things steadily got worse as they subsided to 83/7 at the end of the 14th over. But, as has happened throughout the white ball section of the tour, they were not going to go down without a fight as long as Isuru Udana was around. He lived a charm life, being dropped once and then caught off what turned out to be a no ball on review, but there was no denying his power hitting that caused him to break one bat as he hammered his way to an unbeaten 84 off 54 balls (8 fours and 6 sixes). Sri Lanka needed 72 off the last four overs but without his partners being able to give him much assistance the task proved beyond him with 32 required off the last over bowled by Lutho Sipamla. Morris had the best bowling return of 3/32 and, in addition to Steyn, there were also two wickets for Tabraiz Shamsi who had the outstanding return of 2/16 from his four overs. The Proteas gave debut appearances to Aiden Markram and Sinethemba Qeshile with the latter fitting comfortably into the wicketkeeping duties, taking two catches and not conceding any extras.

Lions vs Warriors, day 2, Potchefstroom

Delano Potgieter continued his sensational debut by claiming four wickets for the title-chasing Highveld Lions, but the Warriors did manage to fight back to end the second day of their 4-Day Series match strongly in Potchefstroom on Tuesday. The all-rounder, who shared a South African record 301-run partnership on his way to 145 on day one, nabbed four for 54 as the visitors reached stumps on 314 four six at Senwes Park. It left the Eastern Cape franchise trailing by 126 runs at the halfway stage of a game the home side must win to give themselves the best chance of overhauling the Cape Cobras at the top of the table. The Johannesburg-based side started the day by adding 31 for their remaining two wickets as Fortuin moved from his overnight score of 157 to finish with a magnificent 183 (227 balls, 34×4, 1×6). Glenton Stuurman ended with five for 110 – his eighth career five-for – as the Lions finished with 440. It was then over to the Warriors and they made a good fist of the reply thanks to a number of contributions. Eddie Moore (36) and Matthew Breetzke (30) put on 72 for the first wicket, with both falling to the seam of Potgieter within 11 balls of each other. The quick wickets of Lesiba Ngoepe (11) and Yaseen Vallie (14), also to the debutant, then left the away side in some trouble on 122 for four. But one of the brightest prospects of the 2018/19 competition, Sinethemba Qeshile, again rose to the fore with his fourth half-century in five innings to lift his side. The 19-year-old wicketkeeper top-scored with a fluent 76 (82 balls, 12×4) and shared in stands of 58 and 61 with Marco Marais (33) and Sisanda Magala respectively to take the Warriors to 241 for six. The latter was still unbeaten at stumps, batting on 59 (124 balls, 9×4), and together with Thomas Kaber (38), had added an unbroken 73 for the seventh wicket to keep their side will in the game. Lions 440 (BC Fortuin 183, D Potgieter 145, K Rapulana 34, T Bavuma 22, SC Cook 21; GA Stuurman 5-110, SSB Magala 3-101, S Langa 2-70) Warriors 314-6 (S Qeshile 76, SSB Magala 59 not out, TP Kaber 38 not out, EM Moore 36, M Marais 33, MP Breetzke 30; D Potgieter 4-54, MP Siboto 1-59, BC Fortuin 1-65) Warriors won the toss and elected to field Footage: Cricket South Africa
