Virat kohli on his funny bowling action | Cricket | Team India
More than Virat Kohli's form, it is his repeatedly similar pattern of dismissals that seems to be a bigger concern for Team India and its fans. In Test cricket, Kohli has habitually got out to deliveries pitched outside the off-stump, while in ODI cricket, the 36-year-old seems to struggle against wrist spin. In fact, five of Kohli's last six dismissals in ODIs have been against wrist spin, with the latest coming in India's Champions Trophy 2025 opener against Bangladesh. Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar analysed exactly where Kohli is going wrong. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has questioned Virat Kohli's capability to hit big shots and claimed that the superstar batter can't hit at will like Shubman Gill. While Kohli scored just 22 runs, Gill cracked an unbeaten 101 in India's six-wicket win over Bangladesh in their Champions Trophy 2025 opener. Kohli's struggles continued in India's Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on February 20, where he was dismissed for just 22 runs. This marked his 12th consecutive innings without a century, a streak that began after the first Test of the BGT in Perth. Of particular concern is Kohli's vulnerability against leg-spinners, as his dismissal to Rishad Hossain in this match was the third time in as many ODI innings that he has fallen to a leggie. This pattern is reminiscent of his struggles against outside off-stump deliveries from pacers during the Australian tour. Manjrekar feels Kohli doesn't have big games anymore. Virat Kohli arrived for training 90 minutes before the scheduled time on the eve of India's marquee Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan in Dubai. Kohli was seen entering the ground in a car alongside assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, reaffirming his relentless hunger to improve. While India's training session was set to begin at 1 PM local time (2:30 PM IST), Kohli was at the venue well before noon. Virat Kohli's weaknesses against leg-spinners have resurfaced during the 2024-25 season. In the opening game against Bangladesh, Kohli struggled to rotate strike, facing 11 dot balls against the spinners in the middle overs. Kohli managed 22 off just 38 balls before he was dismissed by leg-spinner Rishad Hossain. The star batter was dismissed twice by England leg-spinner Adil Rashid in an ODI series at home earlier in February. The home side leads the series 1-0 and the Kangaroos will look to equalize the tally. The Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi is all set for the clash of the Titans and at our end. The Backdrop Australia came to the series prepared for the Indian spinners but there was an Ashwin factor that revolved around their mind. They practiced against an imitator of Anna and seemed to be high on morale. Australia came into this tour off the back of a very successful home summer but they were totally outplayed in the first Test. However it wasn't all doom and gloom as the Aussies did find a potential successor to Nathan Lyon as the debutant Todd Murphy impressed with seven in his first innings. We can also expect a few changes to their line-up with Mitchell Starc back fit and Matthew Kuhnemann getting a maiden call-up perhaps even a chance for 4th ranked Test batter Travis Head. Australia are surely a better side than the first Test proved and they need to look at the previous BGT series to look for inspiration on how to comeback from a demoralizing loss. Let's hope for a more competitive second Test. Pitch Report: First reaction is it looks better than the first Test. It is a two-faced pitch which looks good in the centre but changes as you come closer to the stumps that's where the spinners will be effective. It looks like a Day 3 wicket right now with big cracks already right in the zone for the spinners. The groundmen though say it is unlikely to break up. It is a very dry wicket so don't be surprised if the seamers come into play early. Pretty good for batting first on Day 1 analyze Sanjay Manjrekar and Matthew Hayden.
