Red & Black Big Kites on Faisalabad Basant 2020 #Basant2020 The #Basant Kite Festival has been a historic spring time kite flying event during the #BasantPanchami festival in the #Punjab region in India and Pakistan. Yellow outfits are worn on Basant (Rakhi Vijan)) It falls on Basant, also called Basant #Panchami. According to the Punjabi calendar it is held on the fifth day of lunar month of Magha (in late January or early February) marking the start of spring. Kite fighting is a very popular pastime all around Pakistan, but mostly in urban centers across the country (especially Lahore). The kite fights are at their highest during the spring celebrations and the fighters enjoy competing with rivals to cut-loose the string of the others kite, this is popularly known as "#Pecha". During the #spring #festival, kite flying competitions are held across the country and the skies are colored with kites. As people cut-loose an opponents kite, shouts of 'Bo kata' ring through the air. They reclaim the kites, after they have been cut-loose, by running after them. This is a popular ritual especially among the youth (similar to scenes depicted in the Kite Runner which is based in neighboring Afghanistan). Kites and strings are a big business in the country and many types of strings are used: glass-coated strings, metal strings and tandi. However, kite flying was banned in #Punjab due to motorcyclist deaths caused by glass-coated or metal kite-strings. #Kup, #Patang, #Guda, and #Nakhlaoo cut from #lucknao cut are some of the kites used. They vary in balance, weight and speed. What is #Kite? Answer: A kite is a tethered heavier-than-air craft with wing surfaces that react against the air to create lift and drag. The finest #Chinese #kites are made from split #bamboo (usually golden bamboo), covered with silk, and hand painted. ---- Kite flying is popular in many #Asian countries, where it often takes the form of " #kitefighting ", in which participants try to snag each other's kites or cut other kites down. Fighter kites are usually small, flattened diamond-shaped kites made of paper and bamboo. Tails are not used on fighter kites so that agility and maneuverability are not compromised. These things should be banned totally for peaceful Lahore Basant! Agree?? 1. Bullets and tracer bullets fired during celebratory gunfire. 2. Dangerous types of kite strings, such as metal wire, or strings coated metal filings. 3. Electrocutions caused by flying metal wire kites near power lines. 4. Electrocutions caused by people touching power lines while trying to retrieve kites. 5. Falls from rooftops related to flying or trying to retrieve kites. Another reason cited for the ban was, the cost to the restore electricity power transmission system due to Shortcircuits from metal(clutch) kite wires touching power lines Costs ocurred from switching off the power grid to prevent short circuits during basant days. Child lifted metres into the air by giant kite at Taiwan festival
Footage shows a girl, 3, in Taiwan being lifted high into the air after becoming entangled in the strings of a kite. The unidentified girl was taking part in a kite festival on Sunday in the seaside town of Nanliao when she was hoisted several metres into the air by the giant, long-tailed orange kite. News reports said the girl was frightened but suffered no physical injuries in the incident.
