The Mohammad Rizwan-led side has already sealed the series with a 2-0 unassailable lead, putting on two excellent performances, with the most recent one being a dominating 81-run win at the Newlands. The Proteas have been hurt even more with their pacers getting injured one by one. Ottneil Baartman is the latest entry on the injury list, and he has been ruled out of this third ODI due to a right knee injury. Titans fast bowler Corbin Bosch has been named as his replacement. Heinrich Klaasen has been the lone warrior for the hosts in both matches, with scores of 86 and 97, respectively. He was agonisingly close to a century at the Newlands. The Temba Bavuma-led unit has been looking to test their bench strength throughout this series, and that can be an excuse for their dismal performance. Still, it is a solid squad that has a plethora of match-winners. Saim Ayub's cracking century and Agha Salman's all-round show overshadowed a Klaasen special at the Boland Park, where the visitors held their nerves to win the thrilling series opener by three wickets. Abdullah Shafique was out for a duck in both the ODIs and to Marco Jansen. It would be a matter of concern for the management ahead of the Pink ODI. Saim Ayub got a start in the second game after returning Bavuma put the Men in Green to have a bat. Babar Azam and Rizwan rebuilt, both getting much-needed half-centuries. Agha Salman continued his excellent form, but it was Kamran Ghulam's whirlwind fifty that shifted the momentum completely and helped Pakistan to get a score that wasn't imagined early on. The tourists failed to play the entire 50 overs, but they hammered 329 before getting bundled with a ball remaining. Debutant Kwena Maphaka and Marco Jansen were taken to the cleaners, and they shared 7 wickets in the process. Bjorn Fortuin bowled a decent spell and grabbed a wicket, as did Andile Phehlukwayo. Fortuin walked off the field after finishing his bowling quota due to some hamstring concerns but did come to bat later in the game.

South Africa will face Pakistan in a do-or-die encounter at Newlands in the second ODI on Thursday (December 19). The visitors won the series opener on the last ball of the match, chasing 240. South Africa had to make a late change to their playing XI after the toss as Keshav Maharaj suffered a groin injury. He was replaced by Andile Phehlukwayo. The Proteas announced their Test squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan as well and Keshav Maharaj is part of it despite his injury concerns. Maharaj has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series and Bjorn Fortuin has been named as his replacement. David Miller, who missed the ODI series opener, is expected to feature in the second game. Captain Temba Bavuma too was rested for the first ODI as Aiden Markram was named the skipper. In the last match, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton got the team off to a solid start. Agha Salman was the surprise package as he picked up four wickets in his first four overs to push the Proteas on the back foot.

Preview by AkshayaKrishna Polya The action shifts to the Highveld as South Africa meet Pakistan in the second T20I of the three-match series at SuperSport Park, Centurion, on Friday (December 13). The series opener at Kingsmead was nothing less than a tornado. It was one of those games in which individual brilliance had the final say over a collaborative effort. Heinrich Klaasen tasted success in his first match as a T20I captain as the Proteas held their nerves to thrash the Men in Green by 11 runs in a thrilling contest on Tuesday. The hosts didn't have the services of three crucial players in Durban - Ryan Rickelton (Deserved Break), Anrich Nortje (Injury) and Tabraiz Shamsi (Wasn't match-ready as he just arrived in the camp after completing his stint in Global Super League (GSL) as expected). Rickelton and Shamsi are expected to be included in the playing XI for this clash. Right-arm pacer Nortje has been ruled out of the remainder of the series due to a fractured left toe. Titans all-rounder Dayyaan Galiem has been named as his replacement. The Mohammad Rizwan-led side, on the other hand, dropped their vice-captain Salman Ali Agha from the XI for some reason and didn't have the result in their favour. It might have been for getting the team combination right, but he gives the side an extra bowling option. Not that Pakistan would have used him in the first T20I, as they completed 20 overs with only five bowlers, while Saim Ayub wasn't required.

The visitors’ skipper Babar Azam was the leading run-scorer for his side, registering 125 runs in four outings while Shaheen Afridi and Abbas Afridi picked up eight and five wickets respectively in the series at home against New Zealand. Pakistan are yet to announce their squad for the global event, scheduled to be held in the Caribbean and the USA in June, and this tour of Ireland could well be an audition for those who are yet to cement their place in the final squad. The visitors have recalled Hasan Ali, who last played a T20I back in September 2022, for the series against Ireland while Salman Ali Agha and Haris Rauf are also back for the Men in Green. Mohammad Amir, who made his international return recently, faced visa issues and did not travel with the rest of the squad to Ireland. His availability remains doubtful for the first match. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that their final 15 for the T20 World Cup will be chosen from the 18-man squad that has been picked for the tours of Ireland and England. Ireland, on the other hand, have announced their 15-member squad for the world tournament and would look to test them against some of the big players in world cricket. Irish skipper Paul Stirling has been in sublime form in their domestic T20 tournament and scored 138 runs in three matches. The hosts would rely heavily on the experience of George Dockrell and Andrew Balbirnie along with their captain Stirling when they take on Pakistan at home. Josh Little, who is playing for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been given the permission by Cricket Ireland to stay with the franchise till the end of the tournament and he will not be available for the hosts against Pakistan.
