Kamaru Usman tuvo una brillante actuación hace apenas 71 días contra Gilbert Burns, y parecía que sería difícil igualar una actuación tan buena como esa, pero esta noche vimos probablemente al mejor Kamaru Usman de toda su carrera. Masvidal salió agresivo y tuvo éxito al inicio del combate con golpes y patadas a las piernas, pero sorpresivamente Usman no salió completamente a buscar derribos, sino que tenía un as bajo la manga. Pasó el último año de su carrera entrenando con el brillante entrenador de boxeo Trevor Wittman, que por cierto también entrena a Rose Namajunas, y así el nigeriano logró mostrar un golpeo espectacular, aun mejor que el que lo llevó a noquear a Gilbert Burns hace unos meses. En el segundo asalto Usman tiró un falso gancho de izquierda seguido de un fuerte recto de derecha que conectó de lleno a Masvidal y lo noqueó al instante. Al caer al suelo el veterano estuvo a punto de recuperar la conciencia, pero algunos golpes de martillo de parte de Usman cerraron la pelea y le dieron al campeón un claro nocaut con el que logra otra defensa de título, y amplía su racha de victorias a 14 consecutivas, solamente por detrás del histórico Anderson Silva. Usman ha limpiado la división de peso welter y parece difícil imaginar que alguien pueda vencerlo en el futuro cercano. Ante la ausencia de Khabib y con Jones inactivo por años y peleando contra la UFC por dinero, es muy posible que Usman sea elevado al número 1 del ranking libra por libra muy pronto. Sus recientes actuaciones han sido perfectas, y el nigeriano tendrá que empezar a reciclar contendientes para poder seguir activo en el deporte. Lo más probable es que enfrente a Colby Covington al haber sido su pelea más pareja, y ese puede ser un buen combate en la división, pero después de esta noche parece que Usman ha mejorado su golpeo tremendamente, y aun antes de mudarse a entrenar con Wittman, Kamaru ya había logrado vencer a Covington por nocaut técnico, así que aunque la pele podría ser pareja, seguramente Kamaru será bastante favorecido en los pronósticos. Desde la salida de George St Pierre del deporte la división de peso welter no había tenido un campeón tan dominante, pues Usman apenas ha perdido un par de rounds en su carrera, y aunque en ocasiones su estilo ha sido criticado por no ser el más emocionante, esta vez es imposible criticarlo después de noquear a Gilbert Burns y Jorge Masvidal en menos de 3 meses. ¿Qué nocaut fue más espectacular el de Rose Namajunas o el de Kamaru Usman?
