Afghanistan vs Ireland | Full Match Highlights | 1st T20I | Sharjah Ireland (149/6) put on an incredible all-round performance to beat Afghanistan (111) by 38 runs in the first T20I in Sharjah to take 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series on Friday, March 15 2024. Afghanistan opted to bowl first and led by the skipper Rashid Khan (3/19) and the debutant Nangyal Kharoti (2/16) restricted Ireland to 149/6 in the first inning. However, Afghanistan could not capitalize on their batting as kept losing wickets from the very first ball. Mohammad Ishaq Rahimi scored a quickfire 30 runs but the effort wasn't enough to take Afghanistan closer to the target as they were bundled out for 111 runs to lose the game by 38 runs. All-Round Afghanistan Beat Ireland in the first ODI Kabul: March 8, 2024: AfghanAtalan (310/5) have put on an impressive all-round performance to beat Ireland (275/8) by 35 runs in the first match of the ODI series in Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Earlier in the afternoon, AfghanAtalan were put into bat first and the duo of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (121) and Ibrahim Zadran (60) started off really well and shared 150 runs for the first wicket, which was their third 150-plus stand in ODIs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz brought up his 2nd against Ireland in 4 innings, which was also his 6th overall in ODIs, making him the joint-highest centurian for Afghanistan alongside Mohammad Shahzad with 6 hundreds to their names. Afghanistan lost three wickets in quick succession to go from 207/2 (38.1) to 216/4 (40.2) but the skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (50*) brought up his 20th ODI half-century and put on an excellent and important 71-run partnership with Mohammad Nabi (40) to take Afghanistan’s total to 310 runs in the first inning. In reply, Fazal Haq Farooqi and Azmatullah Omarzai swung the new ball both ways to help Afghanistan with three early wickets to reduce Ireland to 34/3 in 10.1 overs before Harry Tector (138) and Lorcan Tucker (85) put on an incredible batting display as the duo shared 173 runs for the fourth wicket. This was Ireland’s highest partnership in ODIs against Afghanistan. This was also Harry Tector’s 5th ODI hundred and his maiden against Afghanistan. Fazal Haq Farooqi was brought into the attack and provided Afghanistan with an important breakthrough as he got Lorcan Tucker nicking one behind for 85 to give Afghanistan the fourth wicket. The wickets kept tumbling in Sharjah as Afghanistan reduced the visitors to 275/8 at the end of the 2nd inning to win the game by 35 runs. Fazal Haq Farooqi finished with 4/51, Azmatullah Omarzai picked up 2/47 off his 10 overs, whereas Noor Ahmad (1/61) and Gulbadin Naib (1/38) returned with one wicket each. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was named the player of the Match for his incredible batting display as he struck 8 fours and 6 sixes on his way to 117-ball 121.
