Boston's gameplan was obvious though. THey pounded the ball inside to McHale and Parish with some success. It was 22-20 Boston. THe 2nd quarter remained close (15:29). Pippen was starting to find his rhythm in the post, while Boston continued to pound the ball inside. McHale had 10 pts in the period. Chicago was also in early penalty. Jordan did start hitting his shot late, and it is tied at the half 47-47. Jordan was the high man at the half with 17. Kevin McHale led Boston with 14. THe game continued to be slow paced in the 3rd (34:19) and the Celtics would continue to have success in side with Parish and McHale. DJ also would start scoring more, with 9 in the period. Jordan kept the Bulls in the game with 15 pts in the period, including a dunk over the Boston towers McHale and Parish (43:37). Boston hangs on to a 73-71 lead. The 4th quarter (52:33) remained close and it was tied with about 3 mins to go (1:00:31). Jordan and Bird would duel in the final minutes. (1:04:52) Bird would have them up by 2 with just 1 minute and a half remaining after a 3 and 2 FT's. (1:06:42) But Jordan would prove to be even more clutch as he would score Chicago's final 14 pts, including 8 pts in the last 93 secs to lead the Bulls to a 104-98 victory. Michael Jordan was solid all-around, finsihed with 48 pts, 8 rebs, 9 assts and 4 steals. Pippen had 21-5-5. Kerr and Kukoc rounded out the bench scoring 11 and 10 respectively. DJ led the Celtics with 23 pts and 11 assts. Larry Bird did not get going until late, mostly deferring to his teammates the whole game. He finished with just 19 pts 5 rebs 3 assts. McHale had 19 pts, most of them in the 2nd half, and 9 rebs. Parish had a double-double with 18 pts 11 rebs.

Kawhi and George struggled early against MJ and Pip shooting only 4/12 from the field combined. Jordan, on the other hand, had a 16 pt first quarter. In the second, MJ was limited to just 2 pts, while George and Kawhi continued to struggle. Bulls remain up by 6, 51-45 at the half. The Clippers duo started clicking in the 3rd. THe Bulls went up by as much as 12 but the 2 superstars started to get hot, especially Kawhi who would have 17 3rd quarter pts while having 4 stls. George whould have 10 pts of his own in the 3rd. Jordan would not get any help offesively for CHicago. MJ tried to fight off the CLippers rally by himself, getting 18 pts in the period. The Bulls hang on to a 2-pt lead heading into the 4th, 84-82. In the 4th period, the Bulls started strong, and was leading by 7 with over 1 minute to go. The CLippers cut it to 5 with 40 secs to go with 2 FT's from George. On the ensuing play, however, Kerr would hit a 3 off a Jordan double-team and that would be the dagger. Bulls win 122-114. Jordan finished with 40 pts, 10 assts. Pippen added 33 and 8 assts. Paul George led the Clippers with 32 pts, 12 in the 4th. Kawhi had 28 pts, 6 stls.
GAME 1 '96 BULLS vs '86 CELTICS. NBA LEGENDS PLAYOFFS RD 1.
CHICAGO --- Its the first round and Jordan and the Bulls face Larry Bird and the '86 Boston Celtics. The Bulls started the 1st quarter HOT, scoring the first 12 pts, for an early 12-0 advantage. Jordan and the Bulls were active on D and went on the break. THe Bulls would lead by as much as 13. Larry Bird started to catch fire towards the end scoring 7 straight points while the Bulls got cold, Bulls lead to 6, 30-24 after one. The Bulls second unit outplayed the Celtics second unit in the 2nd quarter as the Bulls lead grow again to double digits. Scottie Pippen led the Bulls and they conitnued their momentum to go up by 17 going in to the half. In the 3rd quarter, the Bulls continued to have a solid game, growing the lead by as much as 19. The Celtics did, however, start to find success in the inside to keep it from getting out of hand. Jordan, who started the quarter cold, scored 9 late points, and kept the Bulls up by 15, 80-65, going in to the 4th. In the 4th, the Bulld led by as much as 22, but the Celtics tried to fight back, cutting it to 10 with a 3-pt play from Larry Bird with over 5 mins to go. Later on would cut it to 9 on a jumper from Dennis Johnson. But the Bulls would execute good enough down the stretch, including a sweet alley-oop from Pippen to Jordan on the next play. The Bulls take Game 1, 100-86. POG: Michael Jordan. 34 pts 4 rebs 6 assts 2 stls 1 blk. Pippen added 17 pts. Rodman pulled down 22 rebs, 4 on the offensive end. Larry Bird led the Celtics with 21 pts, but shot just 8/23 from the field. McHale was the next high man with 18 pts and 9 rebs. The Bulls defense was fantastic in this game.
