Oil Spills: Maple Leafs beatdown of Oilers redux Q&A

We didn't see that one coming. Or maybe we did, in hindsight. The Edmonton Oilers' three-game series with the Toronto Maple Leafs at home in their arena was supposed to be more of a clash of the Canadian titans rather than a complete dismantling by the visitors. The Oilers were coming off 11 wins in their previous 13 games, while the Leafs sat atop the NHL's North Division standings, four points between the two teams. But the Leafs stifled the Oilers' dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisatl in all three games, winning by an aggregate score of 13-1. Only Draisaitl registered a point between them on his team's single goal. NHL beat writer Derek Van Diest joins host Craig Ellingson to discuss why and how the Oilers were so thoroughly defeated.
