LIVE STREAM PLAY BY PLAY: Rangers hang on, end Panthers season-opening point streak at 11

Tonight the game is: FLORIDA PANTHERS VS NY RANGERS Rangers hang on, end Panthers season-opening point streak at 11 Igor Shesterkin made 42 saves and the New York Rangers held off the Florida Panthers to hand them their first regulation loss of the season, 4-3 at Madison Square Garden on Monday. The Panthers' (10-1-1) season-opening point streak ended at 11, one short of their record of 12 set in 1996-97 (8-0-4). Shesterkin's 42 saves were a season high. He made 11 saves in the first period, 17 in the second and 14 in the third, when the Panthers scored three goals, including two in the final 1:26. Chris Kreider scored a power-play goal and Adam Fox scored shorthanded in the first period. K'Andre Miller and Ryan Strome scored 30 seconds apart in during a 4-on-4 the second. Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad each had two assists. Florida hadn't trailed by more than one goal in 10 straight games. Kreider scored his team-leading ninth goal and NHL-best sixth on the power play at 7:52 of the first period. His goal came one minute after Shesterkin stopped Frank Vatrano on a breakaway. Fox made it 2-0 with his shorthanded goal at 19:54 of the first period. The Panthers had three skaters go to Barclay Goodrow, the puck carrier. Goodrow found Fox cutting down the middle and he had an open lane to the net before beating goalie Spencer Knight (14 saves). Panarin had a goal disallowed because of goalie interference at 9:10 of the second. The Panthers challenged because Strome was in the crease, blocking Knight's ability to play his position by getting across to stop Panarin's one-timer from the right circle. The Rangers made it 3-0 at 12:48, when Miller scored on an end-to-end rush. Strome scored on a one-timer off a pass from Panarin at 13:18 to give New York a 4-0 lead. Eetu Luostarinen scored 20 seconds into the third period to make it 4-1. Sam Reinhart's goal at 18:34 made it 4-2. Patric Hornqvist scored at 19:20 to make it 4-3.
