Two dubious tries - WP vs Griquas Currie Cup 2020

Two very dubious tries by Western Province during the Currie Cup match on 26 December 2020 The first, by Dan du Plessis, come from a clear forward pass for which the TMO, surprisingly, found "no compelling evidence" that it was forward. The second, with Bongi Mbonambi crawling along the ground, clearly infringes Law 13 but not according to the ref Law 13.1 The game is played only by players who are on their feet. 1. Players, who go to ground to gather the ball or who go to ground with the ball, must immediately: a. Get up with the ball; or b. Play (but not kick) the ball; or c. Release the ball. Sanction: Penalty. Law definition: On feet: Players are on their feet if no other part of their body is supported by the ground or players on the ground. To be fair to Mbonambi, Sevu Reece (Crusaders) scored a similar try against the Lions in Super Rugby in 2019 and the then TMO awarded the try as he wasn't held - https://youtu.be/rGq3FcBaLQw . SA rugby law guru, the late Paul Dobson, agreed with the decision - https://rugby365.com/laws-referees/law-discussions/154568/ Carling Currie Cup | DHL Western Province v Tafel Lager Griquas | Highlights - https://youtu.be/K2my49dygh8
