MIDMID - Thomas Foket, nuchtere ket in de champagnestreek
Thomas Foket, het loopwonder uit het Pajottenland, vertoeft ondertussen al vijf jaar bij Stade Reims, een kleine 100 kilometer over de Belgisch-Franse grens. Daardoor is Fokkie nog vaak in België te spotten en deze week dus ook bij Sam en Evert. Op zijn zeventiende speelde Foket nog bij Dilbeek Sport. In Vierde Klasse leerde hij het metier van het mannenvoetbal. KAA Gent merkte zijn talent op en haalde hem naar het toenmalige Jules Ottenstadion. Al snel leerde hij er het voetbal op het hoogste niveau en de Overpoort kennen. Na een uitleenbeurt aan KV Oostende keerde hij terug naar de Buffalo’s en werd een sterkhouder, op het veld en in de kleedkamer, bij de kampioenenploeg. De stap naar het buitenland leek dan ook een logisch vervolg, maar daar besliste een afwijkend cardiogram op een fiets in Italië anders over. Na een hartoperatie kon Foket dan toch proeven van het buitenland. In Reims, waar champagne nog steeds belangrijker is dan voetbal, kan Foket in alle rust en stil(l)te leven als een God in Frankrijk.
