Assyria
Assyria

Assyria (), also called the Assyrian Empire, was a Mesopotamian kingdom and empire of the ancient Near East and the Levant that existed as a state from perhaps as early as the 25th century BC until its collapse between 612 BC and 609 BC – spanning the periods of the Early to Middle Bronze Age through to the late Iron Age. This vast span of time is divided into the Early Period (2500 BC-2025 BC), Old Assyrian Empire (2025 BC - 1378 BC), Middle Assyrian Empire (1392 BC - 934 BC) and Neo-Assyrian Empire (911 BC - 609 BC).

Ashurnasirpal II
Ashurnasirpal II

Ashur-nasir-pal II was king of Assyria from 883 to 859 BC. Ashurnasirpal II succeeded his father, Tukulti-Ninurta II, in 883 BC. During his reign he embarked on a vast program of expansion, first conquering the peoples to the north in Asia Minor as far as Nairi and exacting tribute from Phrygia, then invading Aram (modern Syria) conquering the Aramaeans and Neo-Hittites between the Khabur and the Euphrates Rivers. His harshness prompted a revolt that he crushed decisively in a pitched, two-day battle.

The population is 57,292 (2015 est.) in an area of 1303 km².The municipality contains the Açu National Forest, a 218 hectares (540 acres) sustainable use conservation unit that was originally established as a forest park in 1950.

Ashur-nirari V

Ashur-nirari V was King of Assyria from 755 to 745 BC. He was succeeded by Tiglath-Pileser III.Ashur-nirari V was a son of Adad-nirari III, and preceded by his brother, Ashur-dan III. He inherited a difficult situation from his predecessor. The Assyrian rulership was severely limited by the influence of court dignitaries, particularly that of Shamshi-ilu, who was the commander-in-chief .

Ashur-nadin-shumi

Ashur-nadin-shumi was a son of the Neo-Assyrian king Sennacherib and was appointed by him as the King of Babylon, ruling southern Mesopotamia from 700 BC to his capture and execution by the Elamites in 694 BC. Ashur-nadin-shumi was probably Sennacherib's firstborn son and his first crown prince and thus the designated successor to the Assyrian throne.

Ashurnasirpal

Ashurnasirpal may refer to:

Ashur-nadin-apli

Aššūr-nādin-apli, inscribed maš-šur-SUM-DUMU.UŠ, was king of Assyria . The alternate dating is due to uncertainty over the length of reign of a later monarch, Ninurta-apal-Ekur, where conflicting king lists differ by ten years.

Ashur-nirari III

Aššur-nerari III, inscribed maš-šur-ERIM.GABA, “Aššur is my help,” was king of Assyria . He was the grandson of Tukulti-Ninurta I and might have succeeded his uncle or more probably his father Ashur-nadin-apli to the throne, who had participated in a conspiracy against Tukulti-Ninurta I which led to his murder.

Aas (surname)

Aas or Ås may refer to:

Assured clear distance ahead

In legal terminology, the assured clear distance ahead is the distance ahead of any terrestrial locomotive device such as a land vehicle, typically an automobile, or watercraft, within which they should be able to bring the device to a halt. It is one of the most fundamental principles governing ordinary care and the duty of care for all methods of conveyance, and is frequently used to determine if a driver is in proper control and is a nearly universally implicit consideration in vehicular accident liability.
