Diego Campos struck for Alajuelense in the 39’, opening the scoring with a fantastic free kick to the top right corner of the goal to shorten the team’s deficit on the aggregate to one goal. After hitting the woodwork a few minutes before, Leonardo Suárez equalized for Pumas in the 73’ with a powerful left-footed volley from the left end of the box to reestablish the team’s two-goal lead in the series. Jorge Ruvalcaba came close to giving the visitors the lead in the 75’ with a right-footed attempt from the right side of the box that bounced off the left post. Robert Ergas opened the scoring in the 38’, knocking home a rebound as the Liga MX side took the lead. Ergas’ goal was just the second by a defender in Pumas’ last 31 goals in the Concacaf Champions Cup, dating back to August 2016. Pumas doubled their lead in the 73’ as Adalberto Carrasquilla delivered a pinpoint free kick, and Rogelio Funes Mori headed it past the keeper. Funes Mori scored his sixth Concacaf Champions Cup goal, and his first with Pumas in the competition. The three-time Champions Cup winners now have 11 wins, four draws, and four losses against Central American opposition since the 2008/09 campaign. After defeating Cavalry (2-0) and Alajuelense (2-0), Pumas UNAM has kept two consecutive home clean sheets in the Concacaf Champions Cup for the first time since the 2011-12 edition. The victory also marked the first for Pumas UNAM under newly appointed head coach Efraín Juárez. Con el triunfo, Alajuelense, ganó la serie 3-2 en el global después de haber empatado 1-1 en la ida en Estelí. Celso Borges anotó para Alajuelense en el primer encuentro, mientras que Delis Vargas marcó para Estelí.
